Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the gentle insertion of very fine needles into specific points on the body.  This process stimulates movement of energy within the body, allowing natural healing to take place.  Acupuncture helps to prevent illness by improving the overall functioning of the body’s immune and organ systems.  Acupuncture is helpful for treating existing illnesses and injuries, preventing recurrence, new illness and improving overall health.

In Chinese medicine, energy or Qi flows in channels throughout the body and over its surfaces.  The Chinese believe that health is balance, both within the body itself and between the body and the external environment.  When the Qi cannot flow smoothly the body’s innate balance is disrupted and illness results.

About Acupuncture

Acupuncture needles are solid, not hollow like needles used by doctors.  They are small and hair-thin and can be bent with your pinky.  More than 25 acupuncture needles can fit into the opening of a typical needle used by doctors. People experience the needling sensation differently.  Acupuncture treatments are rarely described as painful, and needles can be quickly adjusted if the patient feels discomfort.  The most common feelings described are warming, heavy and tingling.  Many people fall asleep during the treatment.

Heather encourages you to ask questions and share any apprehension.  She believes in the body’s ability to heal itself, with a little bit of encouragement, and feels honored to have the ability and knowledge to help put you on the path to well-being.
